Early Google Pixel 9 Pro Render Leak Unveils Redesigned Camera Bar

If you’ve been following Pixel news in recent years, you’re likely aware of Google’s challenges in keeping details about their future devices under wraps. The Pixel 8 series leaks emerged shortly after the Pixel 7 series, and the pattern persists with the Pixel 9 series.

Even with approximately 8-10 months remaining until the launch of the Pixel 9 and 9 Pro, official renders of the upcoming device have surfaced, along with a few discernible details. Here’s a comprehensive overview of the recently leaked Pixel 9 Pro.

The latest leaks, shared by OnLeaks and MySmartPrice, reveal notable design changes in the upcoming Pixel 9 Pro. A prominent shift is observed as Google moves away from the curved back edges, opting for a sleeker appearance with sharp edges. The bezels also seem slightly reduced, offering a slimmer profile compared to the Pixel 8 Pro.

A redesign is evident in the camera bar on the back, which no longer extends to the edges of the back panel. Instead, it resembles the layout seen in the Pixel Fold, featuring a more curvaceous module that acts like a bezel for the camera setup. This module accommodates not only the camera but also the flash and what appears to be a temperature sensor, a feature likely retained by Google.

While the power and volume buttons maintain their position on the right side, the SIM card slot has been relocated to the bottom, positioned to the right side of the USB-C port. The top of the device houses a microphone and a mmWave antenna mark, as evident from the leaked renders of the Pixel 9 Pro.

A Smaller Pixel 9 Pro?

The leaked information indicates that the Pixel 9 Pro might feature a 6.5-inch screen, slightly smaller than the 6.7-inch panel on the Pixel 8 Pro. However, this discrepancy could be an error, considering that the 9 Pro has almost identical dimensions to the 8 Pro, and the visible changes at the front seem insufficient to accommodate a smaller screen. The 9 Pro is also noted to be 0.3mm slimmer than the 8 Pro.

It’s worth noting that earlier leaks suggested the existence of a third model in the Pixel 9 series, positioned between the standard and Pro variants. This could potentially mean that the 6.5-inch display size is accurate for the mid-range Pixel model, while the one currently under consideration could be the “XL” variant. Only time will give clarity on this matter.

The leaked design of the Pixel 9 Pro draws comparisons to both the iPhone and the Nothing Phone (2), albeit with slightly more curved aesthetics. The decision to opt for flat edges is subjective, and opinions may be divided on whether it was the right move. The Pixel 8 Pro’s more rounded and bubbly look aligns well with Android’s aesthetics and curvy UI elements, making the design of the Pixel 9 Pro feel like a departure.
