iPhone 16 to Get 8GB RAM and Wi-Fi 6E; Enhanced 5G for iPhone 16 Pro: Report

The iPhone 16 series has been making headlines for the past few months, and with the turn of the calendar, additional leaks have emerged, offering insights into Apple’s strategy for the 2024 iPhone lineup. The latest iPhone 16 leaks and speculations revolve around increased RAM, accelerated Wi-Fi, and enhanced 5G performance. While certain exclusive upgrades are rumored specifically for the iPhone 16 Pro models, the non-Pro variants are also expected to receive notable improvements.

RAM and Wi-Fi Upgrades

Technology analyst Jeff Pu, as reported by 9to5Mac, shares information indicating that the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus will boast 8GB of RAM, marking an improvement from the 6GB RAM found in the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus. This upgrade will align the RAM capacity of the base models with that of the iPhone 16 Pro variants. Pu’s notes further suggest that the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus will be equipped with the all-new A18 processor, corroborating earlier leaks that indicated the use of an A18 chipset in the iPhone 16 lineup based on early iOS 18 codes.

If these details prove accurate, it will signify the first instance of base iPhone models featuring more efficient and potent 3-nanometer processors. It’s important to note, however, that despite receiving the new A18 processor, the performance of the iPhone 16 & 16 Plus may not match that of the iPhone 16 Pro models. This discrepancy arises as the Pro models are expected to house a faster and more capable A18 Pro chipset, although the exact differences remain unknown at this point.

Continuing, Pu mentions that the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus are set to receive faster Wi-Fi 6E support, a feature currently exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro models. Wi-Fi 6E, for reference, provides enhanced network performance, encompassing faster speeds and reduced latency.

New Qualcomm Modem for iPhone 16 Pro

As is customary, Apple reserves certain premium features exclusively for its Pro models. According to Jeff Pu, the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max are set to feature the Qualcomm X75 modem, while the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus will incorporate the Qualcomm X70 modem, currently utilized in the entire iPhone 15 lineup.

In comparison to the X65 modem present in the iPhone 14 lineup, the X70 modem presents a significant enhancement in 5G speeds. The new X75 modem is touted to bring about 5G improvements across various aspects, encompassing overall coverage, power efficiency, latency, internet speeds, and more. If Pu’s information holds true, Apple intends to distinguish the iPhone 16 and 16 Pro through modems, thereby influencing the 5G speeds.

Pu reiterates that the iPhone 16 will incorporate an enhanced 48MP Ultra-wide camera, a significant increase from the current model’s 12MP. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has also made similar reports, suggesting potential improvements in spatial video recording. Additionally, the iPhone 16 Pro models could potentially feature the exceptionally fast Wi-Fi 7 support.

It’s worth noting that all models within the iPhone 16 series are expected to come equipped with iOS 18, featuring generative AI technology and an intelligent Siri.
