AMD has just revealed its latest graphics card, the RX 7600 XT, based on the RDNA 3 architecture, making its debut at CES 2024 during AMD’s Advancing AI event. This card is designed to cater to gamers, boasting an enhanced VRAM capacity compared to its predecessor, the RX 7600 (non-XT), which had 8GB VRAM.
The newly launched RX 7600 XT comes equipped with 16GB GDDR6 memory, and AMD is positioning it as a “future-proof card” suitable for upcoming games.
Despite being labeled as a 1080p card, AMD claims it offers ample power for gamers to elevate their game settings, providing “highly responsive gaming experiences at up to 1440p“. The expanded 16GB VRAM ensures that adjusting settings in the latest games is not a concern.
Primarily aimed at gamers who play at 1080p, the RX 7600 XT is positioned as a compelling GPU upgrade, aligning with the most popular resolution, according to Steam’s Hardware Survey.
The RX 7600 XT is equipped with 32 Compute Units (CUs) and 64 AI accelerators, featuring a boost clock reaching up to 2.76GHz. Its 16GB GDDR6 VRAM operates on a 128-bit memory bus width, complemented by 32MB of Infinity Cache within the GPU. According to AMD’s specifications, the RX 7600 XT boasts a starting Total Board Power (TBP) of 190W, potentially allowing third-party graphics cards to run at higher power levels for enhanced performance. Notably, the graphics card supports AV1 encoding, facilitating high-quality game streaming.
In the context of recent graphics card launches, there has been a degree of disappointment over the past year. While the RX 7600 XT may not meet some users’ performance expectations for a new-generation GPU, it represents the current offering until newer cards with the latest architectures, such as Nvidia Blackwell or AMD RDNA 4, become available. AMD claims that the RX 7600 XT is up to 1.9 times faster compared to Nvidia’s RTX 2060.
The RX 7600 XT’s gaming performance has been extensively benchmarked, revealing impressive results. This new GPU consistently achieves 120+ FPS on the latest games at 1080p with maxed-out settings. Even at 1440p, the RX 7600 XT maintains over 100FPS in most games, although specific titles like Starfield, tested at High settings, recorded 92FPS at the QHD resolution.
In summary, the RX 7600 XT demonstrates notable speed in today’s games, and it is expected to serve as a high-performing upgrade for users for several years to come.
“Discerning gamers worldwide are pursuing a straightforward objective of achieving smooth, lag-free gameplay at budget-friendly prices to enhance their gaming experience. The Radeon RX 7600 XT graphics card fulfills this goal,” – Jack Huynhm, Senior VP & GM at AMD.
AMD has recently launched an appealing graphics card that is likely to attract a considerable number of buyers. The compelling value proposition, coupled with a generous amount of VRAM, makes this GPU an enticing choice within its price range. Notably, the AMD RX 7000 Series introduces support for Advanced Fluid Motion Frames (AFMF), which is AMD’s AI frame generation technology akin to FSR 3 but implemented at the driver level.
AMD AFMF technology is compatible with almost any game (DX11/DX12), and users with an RX 6000 series or RX 7000 series AMD video card can activate it through the Radeon settings. It’s worth noting that AFMF doesn’t always perform flawlessly and can exhibit some bugs due to its driver-level implementation. While FSR 3 remains superior as a game-level implementation, AFMF can still deliver impressive results depending on the specific game. This new AMD GPU provides users with the potential to effectively double their frame rates through the utilization of AI frame generation technology.
