Android’s Nearby Share May Get Rebranded as ‘Quick Share’ by Google

Nearby Share serves as Google’s counterpart to AirDrop for Android devices, enabling swift file and app transfers among Android devices, Chromebooks, and Windows PCs. Recent reports indicate that Google might undergo a rebranding, shifting from the well-known “Nearby Share” name to “Quick Share.” Here’s what you should be aware of regarding this potential change.

A prominent tipster, Kamila Wojciechowska, shared on X that Google is reportedly considering renaming Nearby Share to “Quick Share.” Notably, Quick Share is the title used by Samsung devices for a similar feature.

Kamila mentioned receiving a GMS update to version 23.50.13, following which a notification appeared stating “Nearby Share is now Quick Share.” Additionally, she provided screenshots showcasing some UI modifications and system-wide rebranding, including a fresh logo.

AzMo Tech’s Take

The timing of rebranding Nearby Share to Samsung’s Quick Share, just ahead of Samsung’s upcoming Unpacked event next month, appears more than coincidental. Samsung’s Quick Share typically facilitates file sharing exclusively between Samsung devices and Windows systems. Speculations suggest a potential collaboration between Google and Samsung, aiming to merge Nearby Share and Quick Share to create a more inclusive feature for all Android phones. However, the details remain uncertain, and only time will reveal the extent of this partnership.
