Meta AI on WhatsApp is one of those features you either rely on heavily or barely notice. If you’re in the former group, here’s some exciting news WhatsApp is now testing a call-like voice interaction with the Meta AI bot.
According to WABetaInfo, the latest WhatsApp beta (version 2.25.8.7 for Android) reveals that users will soon be able to engage in real-time, call-like voice sessions with Meta AI. Similar to ChatGPT Voice, this feature will allow for natural, back-and-forth conversations. What makes it even more interesting is that you can continue your discussion even after exiting the WhatsApp app.

As seen in the attached screenshots, WhatsApp will notify you of an ongoing Meta AI voice session even after you exit the app, similar to how calls remain in the background when multitasking.
You’ll have the option to mute the interaction or disconnect at any time, giving you full control over the experience. This update makes Meta AI feel more interactive and dynamic rather than just another chatbot.
Currently, the feature is in testing and rolling out to a limited number of users. It’s also part of Meta’s broader push to integrate AI more deeply into WhatsApp. They’re already experimenting with a dedicated AI tab and the ability to create personalized AI assistants, as we covered in our January features list.
