I’m Open to Embracing the Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra’s Polarizing Design Under These Conditions

One of Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Watch 7 series smartwatches has recently been leaked in its entirety, and it looks extremely polarizing, to say the least. A few weeks ago, rumors emerged that Samsung might be developing a Galaxy Watch with a square-shaped dial. Little did we know that it would look the way it does in the latest leaked renders. Samsung is calling it the Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra.

Let me get one thing out of the way: most people have already shared their opinions, and many think the watch looks unattractive. However, I think it’s somewhat decent. Okay, maybe a little bit repulsive, but I’m willing to accept the Galaxy Watch 7’s polarizing design if Samsung brings these features.

A Robust Four-Day Battery Life

Otherwise, I’m dismissing it completely. The current Galaxy Watch 6 Classic 47mm nearly lasts two days on a single charge. The bulkier square design of the new model should provide Samsung with the opportunity to include a significantly larger battery.

Combined with the rumored “improved” 3nm Exynos 1000 SoC, the upcoming wearable should offer a four-day battery life. If not, the size and potential weight increase wouldn’t be justified. The charging speed would also need to be improved to quickly power up that enhanced battery.

The OnePlus Watch 2 currently leads the pack in terms of long-lasting Wear OS smartwatches. I’d love to see Samsung step up the competition, bringing us closer to the dream of a Wear OS smartwatch that can last a full week on a single charge.

Extreme Durability

The Watch 6 Classic is made of stainless steel, which is good, but to truly justify the “Ultra” moniker, the Watch 7 Ultra needs a titanium enclosure. Titanium is lighter and stronger than stainless steel, which may help balance the added weight of a bigger battery, if Samsung includes one.

Titanium is also what sets Apple’s Watch Ultra series apart from its regular Watch series. So, it would only make sense for Samsung to take a similar approach for its Ultra lineup. Besides a titanium case, I’d also love to see a Sapphire Crystal display, which is available across all Watch 6 models.

Additional Programmable Buttons

More buttons are always useful on wearables, as they can be mapped to different functions. I’ve always felt that the Galaxy Watch 4 and Pixel Watch 2 are one or two buttons short since you can only map so much with two buttons. I’m not fond of gestures due to their inefficiency, inaccuracy, and annoyance. A mappable button like the Action button on the Apple Watch Ultra would be a helpful addition to the Galaxy Watch Ultra.

The Watch 7 Ultra renders suggest the possibility of an extra button in the middle. While we are unsure if it will also function as a rotatable crown (it probably won’t), it’s definitely something I’ve wanted and hope makes its way to more Galaxy Watches as well.

Enhanced Sensor Suite

You don’t call it Ultra for nothing. Some notable features of the Apple Watch Ultra 2 include an altimeter and a water temperature/depth gauge. These features could be extremely useful for adventurers, and if Samsung is taking the Apple route, why not go all the way?

What standout features would you hope to see in the Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra, which will be unveiled at Samsung’s upcoming Unpacked event on July 10th? Let us know in the comments below.
