Last September, YouTube Music introduced an AI-powered feature that allows users to create custom radio stations on demand. Dubbed “Ask for Music,” the feature was initially exclusive to Android during its limited release. Now, with the latest update, iOS users can finally get access to it.

The “Ask for Music” feature is rolling out to iPhone and iPad users running YouTube Music version 8.10 and above. If you haven’t received it yet, make sure to update your app. Once updated, you should find the “Ask for Music” section near the top of the main page.

The “Ask for Music” feature presents users with ten different prompts to kickstart their AI-generated radio stations. Simply tap on a prompt to create a customized playlist. Below these suggestions, there’s also a search bar that takes you to a radio creation page, where you can type in the kind of vibe or genre you’re looking for. For even more convenience, a microphone option lets you speak your request instead.

Once you’ve entered your request, tap the play button, and YouTube’s AI will curate a selection of songs tailored to your mood. Your newly created AI radio station will then appear on the screen, showing the first three songs in the queue, along with an AI generated title and description. If you like the selection, you can save it to your YouTube Music library using the provided shortcuts.

However, there are a few caveats—the “Ask for Music” feature is exclusive to YouTube Premium subscribers and is currently only available in the US, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia. A wider rollout is expected soon. Since it’s not available in my region yet, I can’t try it firsthand, but it’s great to see Google ensuring feature parity across platforms.
