YouTube Music Introduces “Samples” Feature for Discovering New Music

In its pursuit to keep up with streaming giants like Spotify and Apple Music, YouTube Music has decided to step up its game. As the world of short videos and music exploration on TikTok gains momentum, Google is entering the fray with an exciting addition to YouTube Music. Known as “Samples,” this new feature has the potential to revolutionize how you unearth fresh tunes. Read on to learn more about it.

Exploring Music Made Easier with YouTube Samples Tab

In an official blog post, YouTube unveiled its latest feature, Samples, for its music streaming platform. This feature has found its dedicated spot within the YouTube Music app on both Android and iOS, nestled comfortably between the “Home” and “Explore” tabs. Described as a “seamless feed of short-form video segments to get you to your new favorite music,” the Samples tab is set to transform your music discovery experience.

Tailored to your listening preferences and drawing from YouTube’s extensive music video library, the Samples tab will serve up a variety of musical recommendations. These selections span across established artists, timeless tracks, and rising stars in the music realm. Upon entering the Samples tab, you’ll be greeted with a brief snippet of a song, showcasing a distinctive portion that offers insights into its sound, genre, artist, and music video content. Each visit to the Samples tab or the YouTube Music app will introduce you to a fresh song suggestion.

If a recommended “sample” strikes a chord with you, the options are plenty. You can give it a thumbs up, add it to your playlist, share it with others, and even hit play directly. All these functionalities are conveniently positioned in a vertical layout on the right side. Moreover, you can catch a glimpse of the YouTube Shorts created using the song, thanks to a dedicated “Shorts” button that whisks you away to the YouTube app.

Exploring Beyond the Snippets with YouTube Samples

Notice those three horizontal dots below the Play icon? Tapping on it opens up another layer of possibilities. You can kickstart a radio based on the song you’re enjoying, expanding your musical journey to include not just the current track, but 24 more songs that match its genre and vibe.

But there’s more – the three horizontal dots also empower you to navigate to the next song, add the current track to your queue, save it to your library, download it for offline listening (exclusive to Premium subscribers), delve into the artist’s profile, and, if necessary, report the snippet.

YouTube Samples: The New TikTok?

If you find a hint of TikTok vibes in the new “Samples” tab, you’re on the right track. This feature draws inspiration from TikTok, sporting a similar vertical swipe mechanism to engage with subsequent and preceding videos. Given the global craze for short videos, it’s no surprise that the platform abundant in music videos is adopting a TikTok-esque interface. It’s worth noting, though, that YouTube Shorts already fills the TikTok-shaped void and feels like a closer match. With Samples, Google provides a way to interact with short video snippets on both the main YouTube app and the YouTube Music app.

For the curious minds eager to explore, the Samples tab is now accessible to YouTube Music users worldwide on Android and iOS platforms. If you don’t see it yet, a quick app update should do the trick. So, embark on your musical journey and uncover your next favorite melody with YouTube Music’s innovative Samples feature.
