Grand Theft Auto VI, the much-anticipated GTA 6, is set to grace screens in 2025. While the initial trailer has sparked excitement, the question of available platforms looms large, especially for the thriving PC gaming community. Will GTA 6 find its way to PC?
To dispel uncertainties, Rockstar hasn’t explicitly disclosed the launch platforms in the trailer, which simply indicates a ‘2025’ release. Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar Games’ parent company, officially announced Grand Theft Auto VI on its website. The announcement explicitly confirms the game’s arrival on the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles. However, there’s no mention of a PC release as of now.
Unfortunately, this means that GTA 6 won’t initially hit PC screens in 2025, a disappointing revelation for many eager fans. Despite this setback, there remains a glimmer of hope that GTA 6 might arrive on PC shortly after its console debut on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
GTA 6 PC Release Date: What’s the Timeline?
PC gamers, a significant part of the GTA community, eagerly await the arrival of GTA 6 on their platform. While the initial launch window for GTA 6 doesn’t include PC, the historical trends of Rockstar’s releases give us an estimate of when it might hit the desktop.
Looking back at the release timelines of previous Rockstar games, like GTA 5, Red Dead Redemption 2, and GTA IV, it’s evident that PC releases took some time after the initial launch on consoles. GTA 4 took around 9 months to reach PC, while GTA 5 appeared almost two years after its PS3 debut. This historical data suggests a window of 1.5 to 2 years for PC gamers to wait for GTA 6, post the initial console release.
Although there’s no confirmed date yet, judging by Rockstar’s previous strategies, the PC launch might take a similar time frame. Despite the delay, considering Rockstar’s commitment to the PC platform, it’s likely that GTA 6 will eventually find its way onto PCs, delighting desktop gamers globally.
The recent example of Red Dead Redemption 2’s PC release after 13 months is a significant reference point. Considering this timeline alongside the historical trends of Rockstar Games’ PC releases, it seems unlikely that we’ll hear about GTA 6 for PC until at least early 2026.
However, the transition to a new console generation (like the PS6 or the Next-Gen Xbox) following GTA 6’s release on PS5 & Xbox Series X/S isn’t a worrisome factor. There’s speculation that Rockstar might focus on optimizing the next-gen GTA Online experience. Moreover, their acquisition of RP modders suggests a commitment to enhancing future GTA Online experiences, which could extend to the PC version.
Despite the wait, when GTA 6 eventually lands on PC, it’s likely to come with refined features, possibly introducing new elements akin to the previous game’s enhancements. The anticipation for GTA 6’s PC release will certainly be a lengthy one.
