Don’t want others saving the photos or videos you’ve shared in a WhatsApp chat? Soon, you might not have to worry. WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new Advanced Chat Privacy feature that adds an extra layer of protection to your conversations—blocking users from saving media or exporting chats.
According to WABetaInfo, the feature was spotted in the latest WhatsApp beta for Android (v2.25.11.2). If someone tries to export a chat while this setting is enabled, they’ll be greeted with a pop-up notification letting them know the action isn’t allowed.

When Advanced Chat Privacy is enabled, any media you share in a conversation will no longer be saved automatically to the recipient’s device. This could be especially useful in situations where you mistakenly share private or sensitive photos, videos, or other media files. However, it’s still unclear whether the feature will also prevent screenshots or manual saves.
Interestingly, WhatsApp will notify others when you enable or disable Advanced Chat Privacy whether it’s in a private chat or a group thread. This adds a layer of transparency, letting everyone know the privacy level of the conversation. The feature is currently in development, available only to a limited group of beta testers, and is expected to roll out more widely in the future.
After restricting users from screenshotting or saving profile photos, this feels like the next logical step in strengthening user privacy. Personally, I’m all for this upcoming Advanced Chat Privacy feature. In fact, I’d love to see WhatsApp go even further like adding an option to block message forwarding or prevent others from taking screenshots of the entire chat.
