With each update, WhatsApp introduces new features to enhance its messaging experience. In its latest update, the voice calling feature is getting an upgrade. Recognizing that calling is a fundamental aspect of the messaging service, WhatsApp is testing a feature that allows users to set certain contacts as favorites. This feature will enable users to quickly reach their favorite contacts with a single tap, eliminating the need to search through the contacts list.
According to a recent report by WABetaInfo, the upcoming WhatsApp beta #24.3.10.70 for iOS will introduce the ability to designate contacts as favorites.
As shown in the screenshot below, you can search for contacts and add them to your favorites list. These contacts will likely appear at the top of the Calls tab, allowing you to call them with a single tap.
This feature is expected to work similarly to how you can pin specific chats. Pinned chats always appear at the top of the Chats tab. The Calls tab currently only displays a log of the calls you’ve made and received in the app. To make a call, you must scroll through the log to find the number or go to the contact’s profile. The “favorites” feature will simplify this process.
While this feature is still in the early stages of development and not yet available for testing, not even in beta builds, there is no exact release window. However, it is hoped that it will soon be available to all stable users. Although I don’t make many calls using WhatsApp, I can see it being useful for many users, especially older users who may find navigating the app difficult at times.
What are your thoughts on this upcoming feature? Do you frequently use WhatsApp for making calls? Let us know in the comments below.
