WhatsApp is constantly testing and rolling out new features, and the latest one being tested is a skip gesture for video playback. This feature would allow users to skip forward or backward while watching videos, providing more control over video playback. It can be a convenient addition for users who frequently exchange videos on the platform.
WhatsApp Tests New Video Playback Feature
According to a recent report by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp has introduced a new feature in the beta version for Android (version 2.23.24.6) – the skip gesture for videos. This feature enables users to easily navigate forward or backward while playing a video by tapping on the screen.
In the upcoming WhatsApp update, you’ll find forward and backward icons on either side of the play/pause option when viewing videos. By double-tapping the forward icon, you can skip ahead 10 seconds, and by double-tapping the backward icon, you can go back 10 seconds. This feature is reminiscent of video navigation on YouTube and aims to provide more user-friendly video playback controls.
The new skip gesture in WhatsApp can make it much easier to navigate through videos and jump to specific parts of interest. Whether you want to quickly rewatch a particular moment or skip ahead to save time, this feature will be quite useful. WhatsApp is also exploring additional improvements, such as a reply bar for responding to media in conversations while watching videos and images, to enhance the user experience.
WhatsApp’s upcoming features, including the skip gesture for videos and the potential alternate profile option for privacy, are still in the testing phase. While beta testing often precedes an official release, we’ll have to wait for an official announcement from WhatsApp. We’ll continue to provide updates on these features, so stay tuned.
