Most popular messaging apps allow users to customize chat themes with different colors a feature WhatsApp has long lacked, sticking to its iconic green theme for over a decade. However, things are changing for the better, as the messaging giant has teased the introduction of colorful chat themes in its latest beta.
According to WABetaInfo, the latest WhatsApp beta update for iOS version 24.17.10.71 introduces a preview of customizable chat themes. Users can now choose different colored themes for individual chats, allowing for a unique and personalized look for each conversation.
The initial launch will offer a selection of 10 themes, with the potential for more to be added in future updates. It’s also likely that dark mode versions of these themes will be available, catering to those who prefer using the app in dark mode. Here’s how you’ll be able to set a theme for individual chats.
1. Open a chat in WhatsApp and tap on the contact’s name at the top to access the Contact Info screen.
2. Tap on the “Chat Theme” option.
3. Choose the theme you want to apply. You can also personalize the theme by choosing your preferred message color and wallpaper under the “Customize” section.
4. Once you’ve selected a theme, you’ll see a full-screen preview. Tap “Set” in the top-right corner to finalize your theme selection.
The selected theme will be applied, overriding the current system theme for that specific chat only.Note that this customization applies only to individual chats, not the entire app interface, which is distinct from the app-wide theming option previously discussed
Unlike Messenger or Instagram, these chat themes will only be visible to you and won’t be shown to others. The feature is still in development, and there’s no official release date yet, but it looks like it’s nearing completion.
