VirtualBox 7.1.8 Released With Initial Support For Linux Kernel 6.14

Oracle released VirtualBox 7.1.8 today, the fourth maintenance update for the VirtualBox 7.1 series of its powerful, free, cross-platform, open-source virtualization software for GNU/Linux, macOS, and Windows.

Linux Guest Additions now supports Linux kernel 6.14, allowing users to run GNU/Linux distributions based on it. It also includes initial support for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.7, additional fixes for RHEL 9.4, and enhancements to the rcvboxadd status-kernel check.

Linux Guest Additions has been updated to fix a crash in VBoxClient within XWayland guests, installation failures on systems lacking X11 libraries, and cursor image corruption issues when using the VBoxVGA graphics adapter.

Additionally, VirtualBox 7.1.8 enhances the Linux Host Installer by resolving an installation failure issue related to checks on previous VirtualBox installations and fixes for undiscovered wireless network adapters on modern Linux distributions.

This release addresses several other issues: it prevents the virtual machine clock from rolling back, corrects the display of accelerated cursor images, resolves problems with restoring saved states, and fixes crashes in VBoxSVC during machine configuration saves via the VirtualBox web service. It also addresses an assertion triggered when restoring VM states with the VMSVGA adapter without 3D acceleration, ensures .sav files are deleted upon snapshot removal, and resolves issues with disk bandwidth settings using the VBoxManage bandwidthctl command.

Moreover, VirtualBox 7.1.8 updates the user manual regarding the VBoxManage modifyvm command for host-only networking, fixes network connectivity issues on Windows hosts, and resolves multiple problems in the Windows Guest Additions and installer.

For more details, check the changelog for VirtualBox 7.1.8, available for download from the website as native binaries for Ubuntu, Fedora, Debian, openSUSE, and Oracle Linux, along with a universal binary installer for other distributions.

Make sure to download and install the VirtualBox Extension Pack for the complete virtualization experience.
