TWS (True Wireless Stereo) earbuds come in a wide range of styles and sizes, and their charging cases vary as well. However, a common challenge when choosing the perfect pair of truly wireless earbuds is their size. Some have bulky charging cases while others have large and heavy earbuds. JLabs aims to address this issue with its “JBuds Mini TWS,” claiming them to be “the smallest true wireless earbuds on the market.” Here’s everything you need to know about this pair of TWS earbuds.
JBuds Mini TWS: Compact Size, Big Performance
The JBuds Mini, unveiled at IFA Berlin 2023, is JLabs’ latest TWS offering, designed with a focus on delivering an exceptional audio experience for individuals with small ears and those seeking a compact and lightweight solution. And when they say tiny, they mean incredibly petite.
To begin, the plastic oval-shaped charging case measures a mere 2.08 × 1.38 × 0.94 inches and weighs a mere 18.5 grams (3.3 grams per earbud). This makes it one of the smallest TWS earbuds available in the market. For context, the JBuds Mini is shown in the image below compared to a standard-sized SD card, demonstrating that it’s barely larger than the SD card. Additionally, for added convenience, the case features a keychain loop, allowing you to attach your keys or even an AirTag.
You might be wondering about the performance and battery life of such small earbuds. This was a concern I had when first learning about these TWS earbuds. However, JLabs appears to have equipped the JBuds Mini with high-density lithium polymer batteries, featuring a 25mAh capacity in each earbud and a 250mAh cell in the charging case. JLabs claims that this battery setup enables the JBuds Mini TWS to provide a total playback time of 20 hours, with 5 hours of continuous playback on a single charge. This is indeed quite impressive given their compact size.
In addition to its 6mm dynamic drivers, the JBuds Mini comes equipped with all the essential features you’d expect from a TWS (True Wireless Stereo) earbud, including Google Fast Pair support, Bluetooth 5.3 featuring SBC audio codec, multipoint connectivity, customizable EQ settings, touch-sensitive controls, and IP55-rated sweat and dust resistance for the earbuds. However, it’s important to note that some key features like Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), fast charging, and wireless charging support are not included.
That said, the absence of ANC or fast charging is unlikely to be a significant deal-breaker, especially considering the attractive starting price of the JBuds Mini, which begins at just $39.99 (~Rs 3,250). You can pre-order these TWS earbuds from the official JLabs online store, and they are available in Black, Aqua Teal, Mint Green, Pink, and Sage Gray color options. JLabs plans to commence shipping orders by early to mid-September.
