Despite launching over a decade ago, The Last of Us series continues to stand out as one of PlayStation’s greatest franchises. A sequel to the original arrived for PS4 users in 2020. Following a considerable wait, Sony has now officially announced a remaster of The Last of Us Part II for PlayStation 5 owners today.
Shortly after a partial reveal on the PS Store, the official announcement swiftly followed. Sony, in a detailed blog post about the game, highlights numerous enhancements accompanying The Last of Us Part II remaster. These improvements encompass upgraded graphical quality, additional game modes, and even behind-the-scenes features aimed at offering an enhanced immersive experience.
The remaster boasts native 4K output in Fidelity mode and a 1440p upscaled to 4K in performance mode to ensure exceptionally smooth gameplay. Additionally, expect heightened texture resolution, enhanced shadow quality, increased animation sampling rate, and various other improvements.
Additionally, the remaster will feature reduced loading times and will leverage the DualSense controller’s Adaptive Triggers. Naughty Dog assures that these new graphical enhancements will notably enhance the gameplay experience of the remaster.
Fresh Roguelike Mode, Lost Levels, and More
A significant addition to the remaster is the introduction of a new roguelike survival mode named “No Return.” Crafted to challenge The Last of Us players, this mode will immerse gamers in a series of randomized encounters, offering a fresh combat experience within the game.
The new mode introduces previously unavailable playable characters, allowing players to customize their runs and compete on a global leaderboard. Naughty Dog intends to reveal more details closer to the launch date.
In addition to the new roguelike mode, another highly requested feature is the “Guitar Free Play” mode, offering gamers realistic controls to create their own tunes. Moreover, players can unlock various other instruments for further experimentation.
Making their debut in the remaster are a fresh set of “Lost Levels.” These playable segments were initially excluded from the game and, although not entirely polished, offer players valuable insight into the game’s development process. Additionally, expect embedded developer commentary, along with bonus character and weapon skins for Ellie and Abby.
