The vast Indian conglomerate, Tata Group, is intensifying its collaboration with Apple, aiming to bolster Apple’s manufacturing ventures in the country. According to a recent report from Bloomberg, detailed plans between Tata and Apple have surfaced, highlighting the construction of India’s largest factory dedicated to iPhone production by Tata in Tamil Nadu.
Tata is taking an assertive stance in expanding Apple’s presence in India, with plans for escalated iPhone case production and an increase in Apple’s retail outlets. The new iPhone plant in Tamil Nadu signifies another stride in diversifying iPhone manufacturing, moving away from its predominant location in China.
The forthcoming iPhone factory in Tamil Nadu stands as a significant milestone in the strategic partnership between Apple and Tata Group. Regarded as ‘the biggest‘ yet, this new assembly plant is anticipated to benefit from various government subsidies, especially following the introduction of Production-Linked Incentives (PLIs), which have witnessed heightened adoption rates among major suppliers.
Reports suggest that Apple, in collaboration with its suppliers, aims to ramp up iPhone manufacturing in India to over 50 million units annually within the next two to three years. Alongside these efforts, the Indian Government’s array of incentives for top-tier tech companies serves as an additional catalyst, further incentivizing increased investments and expansions in India.
Apart from the upcoming facility in Tamil Nadu, Tata Group also oversees an iPhone assembly unit in Karnataka.
