Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 to Feature Oryon CPU, Leak Confirms

At the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in February 2024, Qualcomm’s Chief Marketing Officer announced that Snapdragon mobile platforms would be reimagined with the Oryon CPU, and this is now proving to be true. A leaked slide (via Smartprix) confirms that Qualcomm is set to include Oryon CPU cores in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4.

Developed by the Nuvia team within Qualcomm, the new Oryon core is already featured in Snapdragon X series processors for Windows PCs, including the Snapdragon X Elite and Snapdragon X Plus. This newly designed CPU core is recognized for its impressive power but also tends to consume more energy compared to Apple’s chipsets.

The slide also reveals that the upcoming flagship chipset will use a 3nm process node, likely produced in TSMC’s foundry. Additionally, a leaked Geekbench listing for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 shows it will feature a 2+6 CPU configuration: 2 Oryon cores clocked at 4.09GHz (a first for mobile Snapdragon chipsets), and 6 Oryon cores running at 2.78GHz.

Furthermore, the slide indicates there will be two variants of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4: the standard SM8750 and a more powerful SM8750P, which is expected to be exclusive to the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S25 series.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is expected to feature the Adreno 830 GPU, promising top-notch graphics performance and improved power efficiency. On the AI side, Qualcomm has introduced a Low-Power AI (LPAI) subsystem, which includes a dedicated DSP and an AI accelerator for seamless, always-on AI experiences.
