Samsung has taken the spotlight at Gamescom 2023 with a significant revelation: the introduction of the Odyssey Neo G9 monitor. This monitor is being hailed as the world’s inaugural dual UHD-screen gaming monitor. Let’s delve into the intriguing features of this new display.
Odyssey Neo G9 (2023): Features and Specifications
The Odyssey Neo G9 boasts an impressive Dual Ultra-High-Definition (DUHD) screen and has already secured the prestigious ‘Best of Innovation Award’ at CES 2023. Now, what exactly is DUHD? The Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 showcases an expansive 57-inch display with an aspect ratio of 32:9, making it even wider than the conventional 21:9 ultrawide monitors.
To put it into perspective, the Neo G9’s screen can be envisioned as two 32-inch 16:9 monitors seamlessly merged together to form a supermassive 32:9 ultrawide display, featuring a captivating 1000R curvature. This unique design renders the Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 one of the most immersive curved gaming monitors available. With a resolution of 7680 x 2160, it effectively encapsulates the power of two UHD screens, hence the term ‘Dual UHD.’
At its core lies Samsung’s Quantum Mini LED panel, bolstered by Quantum Matrix technology, providing a swift response time of just 1 ms (GtG). This technology enhances contrast and brightness significantly, thanks to an intelligently organized array of dimming zones beneath the panel. Capable of reaching a peak brightness of 1000 nits, the monitor adheres to the DisplayHDR 1000 standard. A noteworthy mention is the use of a matte coating for the screen, which reduces reflections compared to a glossy surface.
The Odyssey Neo G9 embraces AMD’s Freesync Premium Pro technology, effectively eradicating screen tearing issues. However, to harness the full potential of the Odyssey Neo G9’s 240Hz refresh rate and resolution, a graphics card must support DisplayPort 2.1. It’s worth noting that Nvidia’s RTX 4090 and other 40-series GPUs don’t meet the DisplayPort specification requirement and therefore can’t fully accommodate the monitor’s specifications. Nonetheless, for those with GPUs compatible with this monitor’s demands, it promises an exceptional gaming experience. Interestingly, AMD’s Radeon RX 7900 XTX does support DisplayPort 2.1. As for pricing and availability, those details remain undisclosed.
In addition, Samsung has enhanced the 55-inch Odyssey Ark monitor with the introduction of the Samsung Multi-View feature. This innovation permits users to partition the screen into four distinct inputs simultaneously, significantly boosting multitasking capabilities and elevating overall productivity.
