The device is tipped to come with a 7.6-inch internal screen and a 5.4-inch external display.
Samsung appears to be developing an entirely new foldable design to compete directly with Apple’s first foldable iPhone, planned for 2026. Recent leaks suggest the South Korean brand is working on a wider foldable device intended to outshine Apple’s upcoming entry.
Samsung Wide Fold may feature a 4:3 screen ratio
As per a report from South Korea’s ETNews, Samsung is engineering a “Wide Fold” smartphone designed to rival Apple’s debut foldable iPhone. The device is expected to arrive in late 2026, closely aligning with Apple’s launch window, and is said to combine a tall form factor with a noticeably wider, passport-style build.

The report indicates that the Wide Fold could sport a 7.6-inch AMOLED inner display with a 4:3 aspect ratio, paired with a 5.4-inch cover screen. These measurements closely mirror Apple’s rumoured foldable, which is also expected to use a 7.58-inch 4:3 display. Samsung reportedly views this wider layout as more comfortable for reading and web browsing.
While concrete hardware details remain unknown, the device is expected to run on a top-tier chipset to match Apple’s foldable ambitions. Given the expected release period, it may be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor.

ETNews further notes that this Wide Fold model will not replace Samsung’s existing Galaxy Z Flip or Galaxy Z Fold lineup. The phone could also support the Qi 2.2 wireless charging standard and 25W wired charging, technologies anticipated to debut with the Galaxy S26 series in January 2026.
Samsung’s recent Z TriFold showcased new possibilities in foldable innovation, and the upcoming Wide Fold may represent a strategic effort to challenge Apple’s first foldable iPhone. Reports also suggest that Apple’s foldable may drop Face ID in favor of Touch ID.
It will be worth watching how these two devices compare once launched. More details about Samsung’s Wide Fold are expected to emerge over time, so stay tuned.
