Nothing, under the leadership of Carl Pei, is reportedly gearing up to unveil a new budget-friendly smartphone, potentially named the Phone 2a. Although there’s no official confirmation yet, speculation and leaks regarding the phone’s features, including its chipset and design, have surfaced.
Android app developer Dylan Roussel recently shared a sneak peek of the Phone 2a’s design on X (formerly Twitter). While details remain somewhat unclear, the back panel showcases a distinct design departure from both the Phone (1) and Phone (2). Notably, it features a sizable circular camera module housing two horizontally-oriented cameras.
In contrast to the vertically arranged rear cameras on current Nothing smartphones, the upcoming Nothing Phone 2a showcases a different design with a camera bump encircled by small LED strips, maintaining the distinctive Glyph Interface. It’s yet to be clarified whether this design element extends across the entire rear panel or if it’s specifically around the camera module.
AzMo Tech’s Take
The leaked design of the upcoming Nothing Phone 2a hints at a departure from Nothing’s previous distinctive designs, resembling somewhat the current OnePlus and Vivo phones. Nothing’s earlier phones stood out for their unique aesthetics, and it remains uncertain if this trend will continue with the new model, potentially marking the beginning of a fresh lineup. Feel free to share your thoughts on the Phone 2a’s leaked design in the comments.
Regarding its specifications, rumors suggest the Phone 2a might be equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 7200 chipset and bear the model number “A142,” known by the codenames Pacman and possibly Aero(dactyl?). Other details about this speculated Nothing device remain scarce. Anticipated to debut around MWC 2024, starting on February 26, Nothing has yet to officially disclose any information. It’s prudent to await official announcements. Stay tuned for updates as we’ll provide more details once available.
