Game of Thrones left a lasting impact on culture, with phrases like “The North Remembers” still echoing today. Despite its influence, the series hasn’t seen many video game adaptations beyond Telltale Games’ version and a board game. Yet, there are rumors that Nexon, a prominent publisher, is working on a fresh Game of Thrones game.
The rumor originates from a report on Redanian Intelligence, suggesting that Nexon from South Korea is in the process of developing an MMORPG based on George R.R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” series.
According to their insider information, the game’s setting will fall between Seasons four and five of the show, placing Roose Bolton as the Warden of the North and Jon Snow and Sam Tarly stationed at The Wall. Players will encounter these iconic characters during their gameplay journey.
Interestingly, the game will not feature the original Game of Thrones cast for voicing characters; instead, a new voice cast will bring these characters to life. Moreover, the game will have a fully online story campaign. As an MMORPG, players will have the option to choose male or female protagonists, with the other character also present in the game depending on their choice.
While no specific release window has been announced yet, this marks the second endeavor by a studio to develop a Game of Thrones MMORPG. Previously, a game titled Game of Thrones: Seven Kingdoms was put on hold. Nexon’s involvement brings hope for potential success, given their reputation in the MMORPG space. The South Korean company is behind two of the largest MMORPGs, MapleStory and Dungeon Fighter Online.
