In less than three weeks, Apple is set to unveil iOS 18, featuring a range of AI enhancements and other upgrades. Ahead of the highly anticipated WWDC 2024 event, some details about the new operating systems have emerged. According to a recent report from AppleInsider, iOS 18 and macOS 15 will introduce smarter song transitions to the Apple Music app.
Apple is currently testing a feature called “smart song transitions,” which builds on the existing crossfade functionality in Apple Music. Crossfade support was only added to the iPhone with the iOS 17 update last year, after a long wait by users. This new feature aims to enhance the listening experience by allowing users to adjust the crossfade duration between one and twelve seconds. Smart song transitions are expected to further refine this by dynamically adjusting the volume levels of the ending and beginning tracks, ensuring a seamless transition without any pauses in the music.
Currently, users can enable and adjust crossfade by navigating to Settings -> Music -> Crossfade on their iPhones, where they can set the duration between one and twelve seconds. The anticipated Smart Song Transition feature in iOS 18 may automatically apply the crossfade effect based on the specific characteristics of each track, making the transitions even smoother.
Additionally, the report mentions that iOS 18 will introduce a new Spatial Gaming mode and other audio enhancements. Although details are scarce, the Spatial Gaming mode could provide a more immersive gaming experience on Apple devices.
With these updates, Apple Music users and gamers alike have much to look forward to with the release of iOS 18.
