The Google Pixel “a” series delivers the same impressive hardware and software features found in the pricier flagship models, making them the best-selling Pixel smartphones each year. However, recent rumors suggested that Google might discontinue the “a” series, with no new devices expected from this lineup. Yet, a new leak offers a glimpse of what could potentially be the Pixel 9a.

These images originated from a now-deleted post in a Pixel fan group on Facebook in Vietnam and were later reshared by ShrimpApplePro on X (formerly Twitter).

Based on what we’ve observed, the new Pixel 9a forgoes the camera bar seen in the Pixel 9 series, presenting a completely flat rear design. It features a glossy ring encircling the dual rear cameras, with the flash positioned alongside them. The Pixel 9a maintains the same curved corners, flat sides, and boxy design characteristic of all devices in the Pixel 9 lineup.

Another image reveals the phone’s bottom, featuring a USB-C charging port and a SIM tray on the side. The bezels appear thicker than those on the base Pixel 9, likely resembling those of the Pixel 8a from last year. The rear design bears a resemblance to the Essential PH-1, which was launched in 2017.

According to ShrimpApplePro, the phone is expected to be released at the end of the year, debuting in a silver colorway along with three other variants. However, considering that we just received the Pixel 8a in May, this timeline seems unlikely. As with any leak, it’s best to take this information with a grain of salt.

That said, what do you think of the phone’s design? Would you be interested in it if it turns out to be the Pixel 9a? Share your thoughts in the comments!
