Qualcomm Snapdragon X80 5G Modem Unveiled at MWC 2024

As the frontrunner in 5G modem development, Qualcomm consistently delivers top-tier performance and efficiency, surpassing competitors. Following the Snapdragon X75 5G modem, Qualcomm introduces the latest Snapdragon X80 5G modem at MWC 2024.

Snapdragon X80: The First 5G Modem with AI Capabilities

Qualcomm emphasizes that the X80 5G modem is primarily focused on AI capabilities. It’s hailed as the industry’s inaugural AI-enabled Gigabit 5G modem. Additionally, it boasts integrated satellite connectivity, directly embedded within the 5G modem itself.

The Snapdragon X80 5G modem incorporates a new Qualcomm 5G AI processor to enhance performance. It offers support for mmWave and Sub-6 GHz bands, as well as satellite connectivity. The AI-enabled functionality extends range through CPE for improved voice and video calling over 5G NR bands. Moreover, AI is leveraged for multi-antenna management within the X80 modem.

According to Qualcomm, the integration of AI into the Snapdragon X80 significantly enhances the user experience. It delivers a 30% faster link acquisition, 60% quicker CPE service acquisition over mmWave bands, and reduces power consumption by 10% when connected to a mmWave 5G band.

Furthermore, location accuracy sees a 30% improvement, while the time for cell selection is reduced by 20%. Compared to 4G networks, it achieves 5 times better peak speeds. Additionally, Carrier Aggregation has been enhanced, now offering up to 6 times better performance.

FastConnect 7900 Unveiled With AI-Enhanced Wi-Fi 7

Qualcomm introduces the new FastConnect 7900 system, handling local wireless connectivity on Snapdragon chipsets. It brings notable enhancements to Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and UWB (ultra-wideband) connectivity, resulting in significantly reduced latency and a 30% decrease in power consumption.

On Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, Wi-Fi 7 is already impressively fast, and with AI enhancements, its performance is expected to excel further. Additionally, the integrated UWB band enhances proximity awareness for smart devices such as smart tags and car keys.
