Qualcomm has unveiled its latest mid-range offering, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset designed for mobile phones. Following its predecessor, the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 released earlier this year, this new chipset arrives packed with an extensive array of AI features and hardware capabilities. Anticipated to make its debut on Honor and Vivo smartphones later this month, it upholds the 7-series processors’ reputation for balancing decent performance with commendable efficiency. The Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset continues this trend while integrating AI acceleration into its core functionalities.
The Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 showcases an octa-core architecture employing a 1+3+4 CPU core configuration. Fabricated using TSMC’s 4nm process technology, Qualcomm hasn’t explicitly detailed the core specifications. However, it incorporates a single prime core reaching a maximum clock speed of 2.63GHz, complemented by 3x performance cores running at 2.40GHz and 4x efficiency cores operating at 1.8GHz. The specifics of the Kryo cores utilized in this chipset by Qualcomm remain an intriguing aspect to watch.
The Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 brings substantial enhancements across its components. Comparatively, its CPU demonstrates a 15% speed boost over the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1, while the Adreno GPU experiences a remarkable 50% performance enhancement. Qualcomm also highlights a notable 20% improvement in power efficiency for the 7 Gen 3. Regarding the NPU, the Hexagon AI engine delivers a striking 60% enhancement in performance per watt compared to the 7 Gen 1. Additionally, akin to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, users can generate AI images utilizing Stable Diffusion within just one second on their local devices.
Moreover, the latest addition to the 7-series chipset introduces support for high refresh rates, accommodating up to 168Hz on FHD+ displays and enabling 4K display operation at 60Hz. In terms of photography capabilities, it features the Spectra Triple ISP, facilitating the recording of 4K HDR video at 60Hz. Addressing connectivity, it integrates the Snapdragon X63 5G modem, capable of reaching peak download speeds up to 5Gbps while supporting Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3.
