As with every year, 2024 has seen numerous leaks of upcoming Google products. For instance, the Pixel 9 series was fully leaked a full 10 months ahead of its launch! Now, the Pixel Watch 3 has also been leaked and is expected to debut alongside the Pixel 9 series. The leak hints at one significant change, though it’s not related to the display or the overall design.
According to Steve H. McFly of OnLeaks and 91mobiles, the high-resolution renders indicate that the next Pixel Watch will maintain the same screen size and design. The black colorway closely resembles the current Pixel Watch 2’s Obsidian Active variant.
Since its inception, the Pixel Watch has faced criticism for its thick bezels. Unfortunately, it appears there will be no changes in this area, as the bezels remain substantial and the screen size unchanged.
A notable change, however, is in the watch bands. The Pixel Watch 3 will feature a buckle mechanism instead of the previous latching system, promising a more secure fit.
The method for removing and attaching the straps remains the same, as does the sensor array on the back. The watch is reportedly slightly thicker than the Pixel Watch 2, a change attributed to a minor increase in battery capacity from 304mAh to 307mAh, as noted on the safety website Dekra.
This increase in thickness might also be due to the inclusion of additional hardware, such as a UWB radio for precise tracking with Google’s new Find My Device network. Many users have requested a larger variant of the Pixel Watch, such as a 43mm or 45mm model, as the Pixel Watch 2 appeared small on larger wrists. Hopefully, Google will address this demand with the Pixel Watch 3.
In terms of dimensions, the Pixel Watch 3 measures 40.79 x 40.73 x 14mm, compared to the Pixel Watch 2’s 41 x 41 x 12.3mm. Software-wise, the Pixel Watch 3 is expected to run Wear OS 5 out of the box when it launches later this year, possibly in October, positioning it against the Galaxy Watch 7 series, which is anticipated to release in July.
