Google’s “A” series of devices has proven to be a resounding success, and anticipation is building for the impending launch of the next iteration, the Pixel 8a. While a few Pixel 8a rumors have been circulating, including a couple of substantial leaks showcasing the device’s packaging, a recent sighting on the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) website suggests that its release is imminent.
First spotted by Digital Trends, Google has submitted four device models for FCC certification – G8HHN, G6GPR, G576D, and GKV4X. Notably, the model G6GPR aligns with the model number that appeared on the leaked Pixel 8a box approximately a month ago.
For the uninitiated, when a smartphone model receives FCC listing, it typically signifies an impending launch. Given Google’s tradition of unveiling its A-series devices in May, and with this year’s Google I/O event scheduled for May 14, 2023, it’s plausible that the Pixel 8a could make its debut during the same event.
While the identities of the other model numbers remain shrouded in mystery, speculation suggests they could represent new Nest or other home devices from Google’s portfolio.
Rumors surrounding the Pixel 8a suggest it may carry a higher price tag than its predecessor, potentially available in 128GB and 256GB storage variants. The device is expected to feature last year’s Tensor G3 SoC paired with 8GB of RAM, and a relatively smaller screen compared to the standard Pixel 8 model.
As the anticipation builds, tech enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting Google’s upcoming “mid-range” offering. If you’re considering an upgrade, share your thoughts and impressions about the Pixel 8a in the comments below.
