In just a week since its launch, Palworld has achieved remarkable popularity, boasting over seven million sales. The game’s widespread appeal is evident, with its surge reflected even in the Steam player charts. Palworld has now achieved a significant milestone by surpassing CS2, securing the second spot as the most popular game on Steam.
According to the official Palworld X account (formerly Twitter), the game has now claimed the second position for the most-played title on Valve’s Steam platform. The post highlights an all-time concurrent player peak of 1,853,216 players.
This accomplishment comes at the expense of Counter-Strike 2, the successor (or upgrade, depending on one’s perspective) to the renowned CS:GO. Palworld now holds a lead of 34,443 players over the online free-to-play shooter, marking a significant achievement in its early days.
According to SteamDB, Palworld has not only surpassed CS2 but has also outperformed immensely popular titles like Dota 2, Cyberpunk 2077, and Lost Ark. It’s now just a few million players away from overtaking Krafton’s PUBG for the top position, currently sitting at 1.2 million concurrent players. Although reaching three million will take time, the game’s potential for another surge in players upon the release of new content is anticipated.
This achievement is particularly noteworthy as the top ten games on SteamDB are typically full releases or free-to-play, making Palworld’s success in its early-access state impressive.
Despite its rising popularity on Steam, Palworld has not been without controversy, with concerns raised about its apparent similarities to Game Freak’s Pokemon, accusations of using Gen AI in game development, and more. Nevertheless, this accomplishment is remarkable.
