After numerous teases and speculations, the OnePlus Watch 2 has finally released globally, including in India. It marks the second smartwatch from OnePlus, but many consider it the company’s first true “smartwatch” given the shortcomings of the first iteration. It represents a chance at redemption, and early indications suggest it’s a successful one.
The OnePlus Watch 2 comes packed with features, including Wear OS. Here’s everything you need to know about its specifications, price, and availability.
OnePlus Watch 2: Specs
The OnePlus Watch 2 boasts a 1.43-inch AMOLED display with a 466 x 466-pixel resolution, capable of reaching 1,000 nits brightness. While slightly smaller than the Watch 6’s display, the Watch 2’s higher pixel density should deliver crisp, sharp visuals.
Available in a single 47mm dial size, the Watch 2 is designed for larger wrists. OnePlus opted not to release a smaller 44mm version to maintain the 100-hour battery life, which would have been compromised with a smaller battery.
Powering the OnePlus Watch 2 is the Snapdragon Wear 5 Gen 1 chipset, a quad-core SoC built on a 4nm process with Cortex-A53 cores. Additionally, it features the BES2700 chip, a low-power Bluetooth chipset also found in Huawei’s FreeBuds.
The most significant change from the first-generation OnePlus Watch is the software, as the Watch 2 switches from OnePlus’ RTOS to Wear OS 4.0, Google’s latest wearable OS. This transition should enhance the Watch 2’s functionality, making it more like a true smartwatch than a mere fitness tracker, and better integrated into the OnePlus ecosystem.
The smartwatch is powered by a 500mAh battery, promising 100 hours of usage in smart mode and around 48 hours with Always-On Display (AOD) enabled. It features a proprietary pogo pin charger and offers 2GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, and 5ATM water resistance (IP68).
Pricing and Availability
The OnePlus Watch 2 will come in two color options: Black Steel and Radiant Steel. In India, the price is set at Rs 24,999. Globally, the prices are $299, 329 euros, and 299 pounds. The watch will go on sale in India starting March 4, 2024, and can be purchased from OnePlus’ official website, Flipkart, and Amazon.
It’s a significant move for OnePlus to enter the Wear OS market and compete directly with Samsung’s Wear OS smartwatches. The arrival of the Watch 2 promises an interesting competition.
The OnePlus Watch 2 seems to offer compelling features, especially with its faster processor, promising battery life, and competitive pricing compared to the Samsung Watch 6. The choice between the two may indeed come down to the ecosystem preference, as both should perform well on all Android devices.
