In recent years, OnePlus has consistently delivered impressive phones, and their much-anticipated release, the OnePlus 12, has finally made its official debut in China after considerable teasing from the company. In this article, we’ll delve into everything you need to know about the OnePlus 12 if you’re considering making it your next smartphone choice.
OnePlus 12 Specifications
The OnePlus 12 introduces three key upgrades from its predecessor, the OnePlus 11, focusing on the display, performance, and battery life. Its standout feature is the BOE-manufactured X1 2K OLED display, spanning 6.82 inches with a resolution of 1440 x 3168 pixels. This screen can achieve a remarkable brightness of up to 4500 nits, setting a new standard for display luminance in the smartphone market. Additionally, it employs an LTPO display technology capable of scaling down the refresh rate to as low as 1Hz. The OnePlus 12 display holds an A+ certification from DisplayMate, a testament to its exceptional color accuracy and brightness.
Enhancing performance, the OnePlus 12 incorporates Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. Comparisons with other leading devices such as Apple’s A17 Pro and Qualcomm’s 8 Gen 2 reveal significant performance advancements in the 8 Gen 3, attributed to its improved core structure. Qualcomm asserts that the 8 Gen 3 delivers a 30% boost in speed compared to its predecessor, the 8 Gen 2.
The OnePlus 12 boasts a noteworthy increase in battery capacity, now at 5,400 mAh compared to the 5,000 mAh seen in the OnePlus 11. Charging speeds, however, remain consistent at 100W. Notably, wireless charging, absent in the OnePlus 11, makes a comeback on the OnePlus 12, capped at 50W. Additionally, it features 10W reverse wireless charging, allowing users to power up other devices and accessories.
The base variant of the OnePlus 12 offers 256GB storage paired with 12GB RAM. While it’s yet to be confirmed for global units, this specification is a positive development for consumers. Moreover, the phone will be available in variants offering 16GB/512GB, 16GB/1TB, and 24GB/1TB configurations.
The primary camera of the OnePlus 12 features a 50MP wide Sony LYT-808 sensor, while its secondary camera incorporates a 48MP ultrawide Sony IMX 581 sensor, identical to the ultrawide sensor found in the OnePlus 11. Notably, the periscope lens undergoes an upgrade from the 48MP lens in the OnePlus 11 to a 64MP omnivision OV64B unit. This new lens enables zooming up to 3X without compromising image quality.
An often overlooked enhancement is the Type-C port, now upgraded to USB 3.2 Gen 1 from the previous USB 2.0 in the preceding model. This advancement not only facilitates quicker data transfers but also supports display-out capabilities. The OnePlus 12 debuts with Android 14-based ColorOS 14 in China. However, the global version is expected to launch with OxygenOS 14.
The OnePlus 12 introduces new features, including Rain touch technology, enabling usability even in rainy conditions. Additionally, it incorporates a new X-axis linear motor for haptics, featuring AAC Technologies’ Bionic vibration motor with the codename “Megatron.”
In terms of colors, the China launch reveals three options: Leave blank (white), green, and Iwaguro (black). The base variant of the OnePlus 12, equipped with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage, is priced at Yuan 4,299 (approximately $606) in China. Meanwhile, the top-tier variant, offering 24GB RAM and 1TB storage, costs Yuan 5,799. However, there’s no official information yet regarding the global pricing.
The OnePlus 12 is set to be available for purchase both through offline retailers and online Chinese e-commerce giants such as Alibaba, commencing from December 10.
