ChatGPT Integrates with Nothing Earbuds and Phones

At its Japan event today, Nothing unveiled two new audio products. CEO Carl Pei also announced that Nothing phones and earbuds will soon feature built-in ChatGPT support. Here’s the scoop on this exciting development, including how it functions and the rollout plan for all Nothing and CMF products.

We were pleasantly surprised when Carl announced that ChatGPT would be integrated into the Nothing Phones and Ear lineup. Regarding availability, Nothing is currently rolling out an update to the Phone (2) that includes ChatGPT support alongside their TrueLens engine. Additionally, it will come pre-installed on the latest Nothing Ear (a) and Ear products.

Nothing disclosed that the functionalities would roll out for the Phone (2a) and Phone (1) by the final week of April, with all remaining audio products slated for June, including the CMF lineup, marking an exciting development.

To use ChatGPT on the audio products, users can reassign any of the controls to trigger ChatGPT Voice from the Voice Assistant option in the Nothing X app. This allows users to access the AI chatbot from anywhere on their phone. Once activated, users can ask questions and receive answers from the AI, similar to Google Assistant.

However, we noticed that the ChatGPT Voice feature does not work properly in Nothing OS if you are using the Beta version of ChatGPT. It will cause the app to crash when attempting to use the Voice feature either through the widget or by triggering it from the earbuds. To resolve this issue, exit the Beta program and reinstall the app. This resolved the issue for us.

Nothing Phone ChatGPT Features

Editor’s Note: The ChatGPT integration is now available with the latest Nothing OS 2.5.5 update on the Nothing Phone (2). Below, we’ve provided screenshots for each feature.

Three fresh AI integrations powered by ChatGPT have been introduced for Nothing Phones – Clipboard to ChatGPT, Voice Assistant, and Screenshot to ChatGPT.

The initial feature allows you to paste and access your clipboard contents within the ChatGPT app. The voice assistant, as the name suggests, activates the voice assistant. And the last one provides you with the option to send screenshots directly to ChatGPT.

The voice assistant will open the voice assistant, which allows you to send the screenshot directly to ChatGPT and search its content using the AI chatbot.

Utilizing widgets, users can seamlessly tap into ChatGPT features from either the home screen or lock screen—a strategic move by Nothing. Integrating a well-established AI chatbot like ChatGPT into their smartphones demonstrates foresight, contrasting with the popularity gap observed with alternatives like Google Gemini.
