The highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2, as it’s being referred to by many, is no longer a mystery. While details about the upcoming handheld console were scarce, things have now been made official. Nintendo has confirmed that the Switch 2 will be announced within this fiscal year!
The announcement was made in the latest Nintendo Financial results, with Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa confirming the news. According to Furukawa’s official post on X, the company will announce the “successor to Nintendo Switch within this fiscal year.”
Furukawa’s post also indicated that the company will hold its annual Nintendo Switch Direct in June 2024. However, he clarified that the event will not include any updates on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.
Earlier, Japanese media publication Nikkei reported that the new console is scheduled for release in March 2025. The publication stated that the hardware manufacturer aims to prevent scalping, which could lead to delays.
Nintendo Switch faced significant stocking issues during much of the lockdown period, leading to scalping. It wasn’t until 2021 that the situation normalized. Therefore, it is understandable that Nintendo wants to avoid a repeat scenario with the Switch 2. Regarding the launch, it is hoped that the console manufacturer will finally enter markets where they previously did not have an official presence with the Switch 2.
