Motorola, owned by Lenovo, has been making waves lately. Following the successful launch of its Edge 50 Pro in India, which was praised for its value proposition, the company has now introduced the Edge 50 Ultra in several European markets. Unlike the Edge 50 Pro, the Ultra is positioned as a flagship device and, based on its specifications, appears to excel in many areas. Here’s a comprehensive overview of the Edge 50 Ultra.
Motorola Egde 50 Ultra: Design and Build
The Edge 50 Ultra features a 10-bit 6.7-inch 1.5K pOLED screen, boasting a 144Hz refresh rate. This display mirrors that of the Edge 50 Pro, offering a peak brightness of 2,500 nits, HDR10+ certification, and a touch sampling rate of 360Hz. Additionally, it includes DC dimming, provides full coverage of the DCI-P3 color space, and is Pantone-calibrated.
Thanks to Motorola’s recent collaboration, the screen is safeguarded by Corning’s Gorilla Glass Victus. The phone presents a distinctive rear appearance, featuring Pantone finishes that we’ll delve into shortly. Constructed primarily of metal, the back has been meticulously crafted to evoke the tactile sensation of leather.
Performance and Battery
In terms of performance, the Edge 50 Pro stands out as the second smartphone globally to integrate the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. Through comparisons with both the vanilla 8 Gen 3 and 8 Gen 2, we’ve observed some intriguing results. In summary, while the CPU and GPU performance align closely with the 8 Gen 3, it lacks certain features. Nonetheless, it represents a superior system-on-chip (SoC) when compared to the 8 Gen 2. Storage utilizes UFS 4.0 technology, paired with LPDDR5X RAM.
The Edge 50 Ultra houses a 4,500 mAh battery, supporting rapid charging at an impressive 125W, mirroring the capability of the Edge 50 Pro. While some may have hoped for a boost to 5,000 mAh, the current capacity combined with such rapid charging is expected to suffice.
Camera, Connectivity, and Software User Experience
Regarding the camera setup, the phone boasts a triple rear camera system. Leading the pack is a 50 MP wide shooter with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), followed by a 50 MP ultrawide lens. Completing the trio is a 64 MP 72mm telephoto lens offering 3X optical zoom and OIS. Additionally, the front-facing camera is a 50 MP unit.
The device offers support for 5G connectivity, as well as Wi-Fi 7/6E and Bluetooth 5.4. Additionally, its USB Type-C port adheres to the USB 3.1 Gen 2 specification.
The Edge 50 Ultra will debut with Hello UI, built on Android 14, and is slated to receive three significant Android updates along with two years of security patches. Moreover, it boasts an IP68 rating, ensuring protection against dust and water.
Edge 50 Ultra Pricing, Color, and Storage Options
The phone is available in three color options: Fuzzy Peach, Forest Grey, and Nordic Wood. Fuzzy Peach, a Pantone color, was previously featured in the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra. The Motorola Edge Ultra is set to launch in select European markets in the upcoming weeks, starting at €1,000. Additionally, it will be released in Asia, Oceania, and Latin America in the near future.
