Microsoft’s Phone Link is vital for the Windows-Android/iPhone ecosystem and has significantly improved in recent years. A key missing feature for iPhone users was file transfers, which Microsoft is now addressing with a new update for Windows Insiders.
In a blog post, Microsoft announced the rollout of Phone Link version 1.24112.73 for both Windows and iPhone, enabling seamless file transfers between iPhones and Windows devices.
The file transfer process mirrors that of Android, allowing users to select the share option on their iPhone and choose Phone Link to send a file. Similarly, Windows users can share files using the Share option in the context menu and selecting their iPhone. However, it would be more convenient if Microsoft incorporated drag-and-drop functionality through the Start menu integration.
This update is being rolled out gradually, but I couldn’t test it since the latest version hasn’t reached my iPhone 14 Plus running iOS 18.2.
Microsoft’s greater investment in Android compared to iPhone largely stems from iOS’s closed nature and Apple’s strict privacy rules not allow apps to access system elements.
