We previously reported that Meta was developing a standalone app to rival ChatGPT, and now, the tech giant has officially launched the Meta AI app. Like ChatGPT, it allows you to chat with the AI, generate images, access real-time information, and even have voice conversations.

What sets it apart is the addition of a built-in social feed. That’s right—the Meta AI app features a Discover feed where you can explore how your friends and others are interacting with the AI. Naturally, users need to opt in to share their interactions for them to appear in the feed.

You’ll be able to like, comment on, share, and even remix content created with Meta AI by others. Interestingly, there have also been reports that OpenAI is working on a social feed for ChatGPT. So it’s not too surprising to see companies embracing this new wave of AI-first social feeds to boost engagement.

Voice-First Meta AI App

Beyond the social feed, Meta AI introduces a “full-duplex” voice mode aimed at competing with ChatGPT’s Advanced Voice Mode (AVM). This mode enables more natural interactions, supporting dynamic turn-taking, overlapping speech, and backchanneling. In essence, it allows for a fluid, lifelike back-and-forth conversation with Meta AI.

In fact, the Meta AI app features a voice-first user interface. You can enable the “Ready to talk” mode to keep voice interactions on by default, making it easy to multitask while chatting with Meta AI anytime. Users must opt in to access the full-duplex AI voice mode on Meta AI, which is currently available in the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

Meta AI Brings Memory and Personalization

When it comes to personalization, Meta AI leverages existing data from Facebook and Instagram to tailor responses and offer contextual information. Like ChatGPT, it also supports memory, allowing it to remember user preferences.

You can directly share details such as your hobbies or interests, and Meta AI will retain that information. This personalization feature is currently limited to users in the US and Canada.

Integration with Ray-Ban Meta Glasses

Meta AI is now seamlessly integrated with Ray-Ban Meta glasses, allowing you to start a conversation on the glasses and pick it up later on the Meta AI app or web. This move reflects Meta’s goal of creating a unified experience across devices. In fact, the Meta AI app is set to replace the Meta View app for smart glasses.

Meta is also testing a rich document editor in select regions, allowing users to create PDFs filled with text and images. Additionally, document upload support is coming soon to Meta AI. The app runs on a specially optimized version of Llama 4.
