Last year’s MediaTek Dimensity 9400 made waves with performance nearly matching Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. Now, MediaTek is back with a mid-cycle refresh the Dimensity 9400+ featuring enhanced generative AI capabilities and improved power efficiency.

MediaTek Dimensity 9400+ Specifications

The new Dimensity 9400+ retains the same core configuration, including a single ARM Cortex-X925 core, now boosted to 3.73 GHz up from 3.63 GHz in the Dimensity 9400. The rest of the cluster stays unchanged, featuring three Cortex-X4 cores at 3.30 GHz and four Cortex-A720 cores at 2.40 GHz. This bump in clock speed should help deliver smoother performance, especially in demanding Android UIs.

A major upgrade comes in the form of improved on-device AI capabilities. While the chip still uses the MediaTek 890 NPU, it now offers 20% faster agentic AI performance thanks to Speculative Decoding+ (SpD+). This enhancement should enable developers to evolve traditional AI apps into more sophisticated agentic AI experiences.

MediaTek’s Corporate Senior Vice President, JC Hsu, stated, “We are working closely with developers and manufacturers to continue building a robust ecosystem of AI applications and other features.” The Dimensity 9400+ also supports advanced AI techniques such as Mixture-of-Experts (MoE), Multi-Head Latent Attention (MLA), Multi-Token Prediction (MTP), and FP8 inferencing, all of which contribute to faster and more efficient reasoning.

On the graphics side, the chipset retains Arm’s high-end Immortalis-G925 MC12 GPU, delivering premium gaming performance. It brings PC-level features like ray tracing, opacity micromap (OMM), and Super Resolution. Additionally, the updated frame rate converter MFRC 2.0+ improves performance with up to 40% better efficiency.

The MediaTek Dimensity 9400+ also features the Imagiq 1090 ISP, enabling HDR video recording across all zoom levels. It supports intelligent subject tracking, allowing it to isolate both image and audio when capturing moving subjects.

Additional highlights include up to 10 km Bluetooth connectivity between two devices, support for BeiDou satellite positioning with a 33% faster Time To First Fix (TTFF), Wi-Fi 7 with tri-band concurrency, and MediaTek’s Xtra Range™ technology for enhanced Wi-Fi coverage.

With all these improvements, the Dimensity 9400+ marks a solid upgrade over its predecessor. You won’t have to wait long to see it in action either Oppo’s upcoming Find X8s and Find X8s+ will be among the first to feature the new chip, alongside the Vivo X200s.
