Following the announcement of its launch for PC and gaining traction among gamers, Marvel Rivals now aims to attract PS5 players. The game, a 5v5 Marvel-themed shooter, has been conducting limited closed betas over the past few weeks, featuring popular Marvel characters battling against each other. The developers are eager to extend the excitement to PS5 gamers.
It was revealed that Marvel Rivals will hold a closed beta for PS5 consoles in July 2024 in today’s PlayStation State of Play event. While an exact date has yet to be announced, the event showcased new gameplay footage featuring heroes like Venom, Hela, Storm, and Magneto.
For instance, Venom can execute a spike cannonball attack, dealing damage to enemy teams, while Storm utilizes her weather-controlling powers to wreak havoc on opponents. The game also offered a first look at Adam Warlock’s gameplay.
Additionally, PlayStation players will receive an exclusive Spider-Man costume called Scarlet Spider. This costume boasts a unique color scheme and complements the game’s overall aesthetic.
There aren’t many free-to-play hero shooters on consoles aside from the major titles, so Marvel Rivals’ arrival on PlayStation 5 is a welcome addition. It would be interesting to see if the game will also be released for Xbox, especially since the Xbox team has a Blade game currently in development under Arkane Lyon. It would make sense for Marvel Rivals to join the platform if Blade becomes part of the roster.
