As the upcoming Apple event draws near, excitement is building for the iPhone 15 and the Apple Watch Series 9 lineup. While expectations for the Apple Watch 9 include more modest changes, recent leaks have pointed to a more significant update coming in the form of the Apple Watch X. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has shed light on this intriguing development, which we’ll explore below.
Apple Watch X Set to Mark 10th Anniversary of the Device
Mark Gurman’s PowerOn Newsletter reveals that Apple has plans to introduce a special commemorative smartwatch named the “Apple Watch X” around 2024 or 2025, marking a decade since the device’s inception. Gurman suggests that this special edition will bring about a substantial redesign, potentially being the most transformative one yet, akin to the impact of the iPhone X’s introduction of the notch.
Reports indicate that the Apple Watch X will feature a sleeker chassis and an innovative band system. This means that existing bands from previous Apple Watch models may not be compatible with this new iteration, departing from the norm established since the original Apple Watch launch in 2015.
Inside sources at Apple also hint at the exploration of a Magnetic Band Attachment System for the Apple Watch X. This practical consideration could free up valuable space within the watch’s design, allowing for larger battery capacity or other essential components. However, it remains uncertain whether this new attachment system will ultimately find its way into the Apple Watch X.
There’s also speculation that the Apple Watch X might introduce groundbreaking features, potentially including a microLED display and the ability to track blood pressure. While the anticipated release window for the Apple Watch X spans 2024 to 2025, previous leaks alluding to a microLED display might mean that the device won’t be available until the latter part of that timeline.
In the midst of this anticipation, the launch of the Apple Watch 9 and the next-gen Apple Watch Ultra are also eagerly awaited. These devices are expected to incorporate an upgraded S9 chipset for enhanced performance, along with new design elements such as dark titanium and an appealing new pink color option.
