Lenovo Set to Introduce Legion 9i, Slimmest Gaming Laptop with Water Cooling Technology

Lenovo is gearing up to unveil an innovative gaming laptop, the Legion 9i, which introduces an intriguing twist – water cooling. While all-in-one water cooling systems are common in desktop setups, Lenovo is breaking new ground by incorporating this technology into a laptop. Let’s delve into the details.

The Power-Packed Legion 9i with Water Cooling

In terms of specifications, the upcoming Legion 9i is rumored to house the high-end Intel Core i9-13980HX processor from the Raptor Lake architecture. This processor is renowned for its formidable performance, particularly in gaming laptops. Accompanying it is a mobile version of the RTX 4090 GPU, equipped with a substantial 16GB of GDDR6 VRAM. This pairing holds promise for exceptional gaming capabilities, possibly enhanced by Lenovo’s AI Engine+ feature.

What makes the Legion 9i stand out is its remarkably slim profile, measuring just 18.9mm in thickness. This sleek design has been made possible by implementing what Lenovo claims to be “the world’s thinnest water cooling system.” Expected to include three fans, this innovative cooling system should help regulate temperatures, particularly when the laptop is under heavy load and surpasses 84 degrees Celsius. Interestingly, the laptop’s built-in water cooling mechanism is designed to activate only during periods of extreme heat, ensuring the longevity of the internal pump.

Reports indicate that the cooling system comprises a triple-fan setup with 3D blades. Notably, Lenovo has opted for liquid metal instead of traditional thermal paste, a choice that aids in further reducing temperatures. Given the high-performance components within, effective cooling is essential, and Lenovo appears to be taking a comprehensive approach. The Legion 9i is likely to feature a 16.3-inch 2K IPS display with a variable refresh rate of up to 165Hz.

While specific details about pricing and availability remain undisclosed, there’s speculation that Lenovo might unveil the Legion 9i at the IFA 2023 event in Berlin, scheduled from September 1 to 5. It’s worth noting that Lenovo could also take the opportunity to introduce the rumored Legion Go Gaming Handheld during the same event.

Are you eagerly anticipating the Legion 9i from Lenovo? What are your thoughts on the choice between water cooling and air cooling in the context of gaming laptops? Feel free to share your opinions in the comments below.
