Jio has decided to discontinue its Rs 119 prepaid plan, a move aimed at boosting the Average Revenue Per User (ARPU). Although this change might disappoint some users, there’s a replacement plan that now holds the title of Jio’s most affordable prepaid option in India. Let’s dive into the details.
Introducing Jio’s New Most Affordable Plan
The previous Rs 119 prepaid plan from Jio is no longer available. Instead, the spotlight has shifted to the Rs 149 plan, which takes over as the new budget-friendly choice. Additionally, there’s also the Rs 61 5G upgrade plan, but it’s more of an add-on than a standalone plan.
The Rs 149 plan offers users 1GB of daily data (a total of 20GB for the entire period), unlimited calls, and 100 SMS per day. Alongside these features, subscribers get access to JioTV, JioCloud, and JioCinema services. The plan’s validity extends for 20 days.
Comparatively, the now-retired Rs 119 plan provided an enhanced data allowance of 1.5GB per day, coupled with unlimited calls and 100 SMS per day. However, its validity period was shorter, spanning just 14 days. Even though the new most affordable plan offers slightly less data, its extended validity window makes up for the difference. This change follows Jio’s decision to discontinue the Rs 1 plan last year, which had been introduced as a temporary addition to attract more users.
A similar shift occurred with Airtel, which discontinued its Rs 99 plan due to similar reasons and replaced it with the Rs 155 plan. This Airtel plan offers 1GB of total data, unlimited calls, 300 SMS, and access to Wynk Music along with a free HelloTunes subscription. The plan’s validity lasts for 24 days. However, in comparison to Jio’s offering, this Airtel plan might not appear as appealing.
