With the highly anticipated iPhone 16 series set to launch in just a weekend, leaks continue to emerge. Last year, Apple eliminated the 128GB starting option for the iPhone Pro Max, introducing a top-tier 2TB variant instead. According to a new TrendForce report, the iPhone 16 Pro is expected to begin with 256GB of base storage this year, moving away from the 128GB option previously available for Pro models.
The current iPhone 15 Pro starts at $999 for the 128GB model, while the flagship iPhone 15 Pro Max begins at $1,199 for the 256GB option. Apple eliminated the 128GB model for the iPhone 15 Pro Max, which means the starting price remains at $1,199 – $100 more than the iPhone 14 Pro Max. This strategy allowed Apple to avoid a price increase by removing the lower-priced 128GB option. Both the iPhone 14 Pro Max and iPhone 15 Pro Max are priced at $1,199 for the 256GB variant.
The latest TrendForce report suggests that the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro will feature a high-cost tetraprism telephoto lens, which was previously exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro Max. This indicates that Apple plans to use a similar strategy as it did with the iPhone 15 Pro Max. Instead of making headlines for a price increase, Apple will set 256GB as the base storage option for the iPhone 16 Pro, shifting the higher cost to consumers through this adjustment.
The upcoming iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro are anticipated to feature larger displays, a highly capable A18 chipset, a new Capture Button, and support for Apple Intelligence. The new lineup will be unveiled at Apple’s ‘Glowtime’ hardware launch event on September 9 at 10:00 am PT or 10:30 pm IST.
