The highly anticipated AI iPhones have arrived! Apple introduced the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus at the “Glowtime” hardware launch event on September 9, 2024. These new models come with significant upgrades, including the A18 chipset with 8GB RAM, an Action Button, the long-awaited Camera Control, Apple Intelligence support, and more. Here’s a glimpse of what’s new!

iPhone 16 and 16 Plus: Specifications and Features

As anticipated, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus come with design changes that distinguish them from last year’s iPhone 15 and 15 Plus models. The iPhone 16 is crafted with aerospace-grade aluminum and features a second-gen Glass Ceramic Shield on the front. A notable update is the new vertically aligned camera system with a pill-shaped bump, housing a 48MP wide sensor and a 12MP ultra-wide sensor for capturing more expansive scenes with 0.5x zoom.

The iPhone 16 introduces an enhanced 48MP primary fusion camera and a 12MP ultra-wide camera, now with Autofocus and Macro photography capabilities for the first time. These improvements aim to enhance night photography, allowing users to capture more detailed low-light shots.

One of the most exciting new features of the iPhone 16 models is the innovative Camera Control, which includes dedicated camera functions. Located on the bottom-right of the iPhone, the Capture Button allows you to quickly access the Camera app, zoom in and out, adjust focus, and modify other settings while recording videos in landscape mode. Additionally, the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus now feature the programmable Action Button, which was first introduced with the iPhone 15 Pro models. As a result, Apple has completely replaced the traditional Mute switch.

Regarding internal specifications, the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus are equipped with the new A18 Bionic chipset, built using advanced second-gen 3nm technology and features a 6-core CPU, a 5-core GPU, and a 16-core Neural Engine. After using the previous generation iPhone Pro’s SoC in its base models for two years, Apple has finally introduced a new chipset across the entire iPhone 16 lineup. Apple claims that the iPhone 16 delivers 30% faster CPU performance than the iPhone 15. The A18 processor also supports AAA games, providing an enhanced gaming experience. Additionally, the new thermal design improves heat dissipation, resulting in 30% higher sustained performance for graphics.

For the first time, the iPhone 16 models come with an upgraded 8GB of RAM, up from 6GB, enhancing performance and supporting Apple Intelligence features. This upgrade allows access to various Apple Intelligence capabilities, including phone call recording, web page summaries, Writing Tools, and more. This is a major improvement and a key differentiator from last year’s iPhone 15. For users with older models, the inclusion of Apple Intelligence could be a compelling reason to upgrade to the new iPhone 16. Additionally, the iPhone 16 introduces Visual Intelligence, which leverages on-device intelligence to provide information about your surroundings. For example, by pointing your camera at a café, your iPhone can display details such as opening hours, the menu, and more.

Both the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus feature Super Retina XDR OLED displays, with the iPhone 16 sporting a 6.1-inch screen and the iPhone 16 Plus offering a larger 6.7-inch display. As with their predecessors, both models support up to 2000 nits of brightness. Unfortunately, the standard iPhone 16 models still have a 60Hz refresh rate. They feature iOS 18, a USB-C charging port, all-day battery life, an upgraded microphone for improved Siri performance, Wi-Fi 7 support, and more. You have the option to choose from three storage capacities: 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB.

iPhone 16 Price

As expected, Apple has kept the pricing for its base models unchanged. Despite numerous performance upgrades and AI support, the iPhone 16 is priced similarly to the iPhone 15. The iPhone 16 is priced at $799, while the larger iPhone 16 Plus starts at $899. Both models will be offered in five vibrant and saturated colors: Ultra Marine, Teal, Pink, White, and Black.
