Intel has introduced the Core i9-14900KS processor as part of its 14th-Gen lineup. Similar to previous KS flagship processors, this model is being promoted as the “world’s fastest desktop processor.” Alongside its performance claims, the price has also been elevated.
Compared to its predecessor, the i9-14900K, the i9-14900KS features a higher base TDP of 150W, up from 125W. Its turbo power remains consistent at 253W. The maximum clock speed of the Intel Core i9-14900KS is advertised as 6.20 GHz for the Performance (P) Cores, thanks to “Thermal Velocity Boost.” The all-core maximum turbo frequency remains the same as the non-KS variant at 5.60 GHz. The efficiency (E) cores also receive a minor bump of 100MHz, now capable of reaching up to 4.50 GHz turbo frequency. The total cache remains consistent at 36MB of Intel Smart Cache.
Price and Availability of the Intel Core i9-14900KS
Intel has announced that the Core i9-14900KS will be available starting March 14, 2024. The company has specified a price tag of $699 for this processor.
In comparison to the non-KS i9-14900K, priced at $544.99 currently, the latest i9-14900KS comes at a premium of about $150. Despite its higher price tag, this new processor is expected to be available for purchase from various retailers like Amazon, Newegg, Microcenter, and others in the near future.
The price increase may raise questions about its value proposition, especially considering the modest enhancement in Thermal Velocity Boost frequency to 6.20 GHz. However, the Intel Core i9-14900KS is positioned as a special edition CPU, believed to undergo a higher binning process compared to standard CPUs.
