Intel Introduces Core i9-14900HX and 14th Gen Raptor Lake HX i5 & i7 CPUs

The recent Intel launch at CES 2024 introduced the i9-14900HX and a range of 14th Gen Raptor Lake HX processors. These processors utilize the Intel 7 manufacturing process, a shift from Intel 4 seen in Core Ultra processors. This launch also included new 14th Gen Non-K desktop CPUs and Intel Core (non-Ultra) processors, providing a comprehensive look at Intel’s 2025 lineup for laptops and desktops.

In the lineup, Intel introduced the Core i5-14450HX, i5-14500HX, i7-14650HX, i7-14700HX, and i9-14900HX processors, catering to various performance levels. Notably, the Core i7-14700HX features double the E-cores compared to the previous-gen i7-13700HX, showcasing an upgrade in core configuration. The desktop i7-14700K 14th Gen processor also received a similar enhancement in its core configuration over the previous generation.

Intel 14th Gen Raptor Lake HX (i5 to i9): Specifications & Features

The entire lineup of Intel 14th Gen laptop processors, including the i5-14500HX and i9-14900HX, maintains the Raptor Lake architecture. While it’s a refreshed version of the architecture, notable improvements include an enhanced core clock speed across the lineup. Additionally, these processors boast Thunderbolt 5 support and are equipped with Wi-Fi 7 connectivity.

The HX processors in the lineup are unlocked for overclocking in specific gaming laptops, and they also support DDR5 memory overclocking. Here are the detailed specifications for the new Intel 14th Gen Raptor Lake HX processors:

Furthermore, Core i7 and Core i9 14th Gen processors include Intel Application Optimization (APO), a feature that dynamically manages CPU resource allocation. The corresponding app can be downloaded from the Microsoft Store for compatible processors.

The i7-14700K and i9-14900K, including their KF variants, also support the APO feature, functioning within Intel’s Dynamic Tuning (DTT) framework.

Several gaming laptops equipped with the new Intel 14th Gen processors have been showcased at CES 2024 by various manufacturers. Lenovo has introduced the Legion 9i Gen 9, featuring the i9-14900HX processor coupled with a 3.2K resolution mini LED display. MSI, too, has launched the Titan 18 HX gaming laptop, equipped with the Core i9 14th Gen CPU.

This 18-inch powerhouse by MSI boasts a 4K 120Hz Mini LED display and is paired with an RTX 4090. Acer’s Nitro and Predator series have also received updates, with the Nitro 7 featuring the Intel Core i7-14700HX processor, and the Predator Helios Neo 18 launching with the highest-end Intel Core i9-14900HX.

Intel Core Ultra (Meteor Lake, Series 1) vs Intel Core (Raptor Lake Refresh, 14th Gen)

You may be curious about Intel’s decision to release new Raptor Lake architecture 14th Gen processors alongside Meteor Lake architecture Core Ultra processors. The company is implementing a new strategy for Intel gaming laptops in 2025.

Moving forward, you can expect to see a combination of Core Ultra laptops (based on the Meteor Lake architecture) and various laptops featuring Core i5/i7/i9 14th Gen processors (Raptor Lake Refresh architecture).

Gaming laptops equipped with the new Intel 14th Gen Raptor Lake HX processors are anticipated to deliver enhanced performance. On the other hand, Core Ultra laptops, such as the upcoming model promoted by HP as the world’s lightest 14-inch gaming laptop, are designed to provide superior battery life.

Several Core Ultra laptops are equipped with Intel’s high-performance integrated Arc GPU, while others may incorporate dedicated graphics cards. Additionally, Core Ultra processors are accompanied by the NPU chip, designed to accelerate AI workloads, a feature not present in 14th Gen processors.

Intel Core Non-Ultra Meteor Lake Processors and Intel 14th Gen Non-K Desktop CPUs Announced

Intel has expanded its 14th Gen desktop processors lineup with the introduction of new non-K desktop processors at CES 2024. The range now spans from the Intel Core i3-14100 to the i9-14900 desktop CPUs. Unlike the K-series i9 and others, these processors will come with a stock cooler, though unlocking power limits with these included coolers is not expected.

The new Intel 14th Gen desktop processors (non-K) are available starting today, and various local retailers will begin listing them for purchase. Additionally, Intel has updated the Series 1 lineup, which initially only featured Core Ultra processors.

Intel has expanded its Series 1 lineup to include non-Ultra Core CPUs, such as the Core 7 150U, Core 5 120U, and Core 3 100U. These processors were also identified on the Asus website, notably featured in the new Vivobook laptop.
