Instagram Finally Adds a Fast-Forward Option for Long Reels

Thanks to TikTok and Instagram Reels, our attention spans have taken a serious hit. These days, if a video lasts more than 30 seconds, it better have Subway Surfers running at the bottom to keep us engaged. Apparently, Instagram understands the struggle, which is why it’s now rolling out the ability to fast-forward Reels.

Instagram is introducing a 2x speed fast-forward option for Reels. Users can activate it by long-pressing on either the left or right side of the screen a feature reminiscent of TikTok’s implementation.

This feature has been highly requested, especially since Instagram extended Reels to three minutes back in January. It’s not entirely new, though it first appeared in early testing a few weeks ago.

Now, the fast-forward option is rolling out to all users. So if, like me, you can’t sit through even three minutes of content, you finally have an easy way to skip ahead. Given my already unhealthy Instagram addiction, I know I’ll be spamming the 2x button constantly further ruining my attention span in the process.

What do you think about this fast-forward feature? Is it a useful addition, or will it only fuel our addiction to short-form content even more? Let us know in the comments!
