Anticipation for GTA 6 is at an all-time high, and the modding community is no exception. To give players an early glimpse of Leonida, the “Project Vice” mod was created, allowing the GTA 6 map to be played within Grand Theft Auto 5. However, Take-Two has taken issue with the mod, leading to the removal of the GTA 5 mod that allowed players to explore the GTA 6 map.
After the release of the highly anticipated GTA 6 trailer in late 2023, fans expected a steady stream of updates from Rockstar Games. However, true to Rockstar’s style, the developers have remained largely silent, leaving questions about potential delays and the 2025 release date unanswered.
In the absence of official communication from Rockstar, publisher Take-Two has become the primary source of updates. This silence has sparked fans to closely analyze the trailer for clues, with some even attempting to reconstruct the game’s map.
GTA 6 Map in GTA 5 Mod Has Been Taken Down
The GTA 5 mod featuring the GTA 6 map isn’t a full replica, as there’s limited information available about the game’s details. Nonetheless, Take-Two Interactive has removed the free map modification created by modder Dark Space. This action follows a YouTube copyright strike from the parent company of GTA 6 on Dark Space’s video showcasing the mod. In an interview with IGN, the GTA 5 map modder shared the following:
“I think my map could have ruined the surprise of their map, which I get. If you spent years building out this amazing game world just to have some YouTuber spoil the experience of the map’s shape, size, and vibe… I’d want it removed too.”
Dark Space mentioned that he approached the project without any expectations and that “the fact that it happened does not surprise” him. He also posted an apology video on YouTube addressing the copyright strike. He explained that the map was based on shots from the GTA 6 trailer and leaks from the GTA 6 mapping project. It’s important to note that the mapping project was created based on speculations derived from the GTA 6 leak.
Rockstar Games is tightening up security around the GTA 6 release as the date approaches, wanting to avoid any further leaks or incidents that could dampen the anticipation that’s been building for over a decade. With many expecting GTA 6 trailer 2 to drop on April 1, 2025, the copyright strike seems pretty predictable.
