The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max have garnered unfavorable attention following their launch due to widespread reports of overheating problems encountered by users worldwide. Despite employing Apple’s cutting-edge 3nm A17 Pro chipset in both models, even this high-performance processor falls short in preventing overheating during demanding activities like gaming or routine daily use. The absence of adequate heat dissipation solutions on Apple’s flagship devices, even in 2023, has contributed to these persistent issues. However, there’s speculation surrounding the iPhone 16 that Apple is exploring a potential solution in the form of a ‘graphene thermal system‘ designed to address and manage overheating concerns.
Despite Apple attributing the overheating to subpar software optimization and attempting to resolve it through a software patch, the limitations of solely relying on a software update without a robust cooling solution are evident. Therefore, the speculated introduction of this new cooling system could potentially prove highly beneficial in addressing the issue at its core.
Inclusion of Metal Shell over Battery Expected
Previously, there were speculations about Apple considering the integration of liquid vapor cooling in their upcoming iPhones. However, a fresh rumor from X user (formerly Twitter) Kosutami indicates a shift in focus, suggesting that the company is presently engaged in developing a graphene thermal system for the iPhone 16 series. This system aims to combat overheating concerns and might also involve incorporating a metal shell around the battery for improved thermal management.
Many smartphone brands, including Google with its recent Pixel 8 and 8 Pro models, have adopted graphene films to manage heat dissipation. However, this measure has had limited success in addressing overheating concerns. Hence, the potential incorporation of a metal shell around the battery in the iPhone 16 seems plausible.
Although the implementation of the graphene thermal system in the iPhone 16 series remains uncertain until its release next year, given the ongoing criticism of the iPhone 15 Pro series for overheating, Apple is undoubtedly motivated to find effective solutions to tackle this persistent issue.
