By now, you’ve probably heard of Google’s NotebookLM website a tool designed to help students break down and understand complex topics using AI-powered summaries. One of its standout features is the ability to transform any article, dataset, or document into a podcast-style conversation hosted by two AI narrators. And now, Google has officially confirmed that NotebookLM will soon be available as a mobile app.

Since its launch last year, NotebookLM has only been accessible via desktop or mobile browsers, with no dedicated app in sight. It even seemed like Google wasn’t planning to develop one. But that’s changing soon, as the company has revealed that a native NotebookLM app is indeed on the way.

Beyond Google’s announcement, there isn’t much official information available just yet. However, it’s likely that the upcoming app will resemble the current progressive web app (PWA) interface. When you access NotebookLM via a mobile browser and save it as a PWA, you’re greeted with a clean, three-tab layout that includes Sources, Chat, and Studio. This structure could carry over to the native app for a familiar user experience.

With NotebookLM having been around for over a year, it’s about time we got a proper mobile app. Especially now that Microsoft is rolling out a similar AI-hosted podcast feature in Copilot, Google needs to step up and make NotebookLM more accessible to stay competitive.

A mobile app would definitely have broader appeal, especially in developing regions where many students lack access to a desktop or laptop at home. For them, having NotebookLM as an app could be incredibly useful and make learning more accessible.

What do you think about this? Would you be excited for a NotebookLM app? And what features would you like to see included? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
