Google Refreshes Its Iconic “G” Logo with New Gradient Look

Google’s colorful “G” logo is one of the most iconic and instantly recognizable symbols, remaining unchanged since 2015. However, just ahead of their upcoming Android showcase, Google has given the logo a modern design refresh.

The updated “G” blends the red, blue, green, and yellow colors into a smooth gradient, softening the clear separations that previously defined each section. This new look was first seen in an update to the Google app on iOS and has since started appearing on other Android devices as well.

The reason behind this change isn’t entirely clear yet, but it might be tied to Google’s upcoming Android event on May 13th, where they could unveil the new Material 3 Expressive design language for future Android devices.

It’s a subtle tweak overall—the font style of the “G” remains unchanged, so the update might slip past unnoticed by many. Still, it’s worth mentioning, as Google doesn’t often experiment with gradients in its core branding. The last major logo update happened in 2015, when they switched to a sans-serif typeface.
